It's great when you have several of these species in one place, but to have all these species, in these sizes and abundance is nothing short of spectacular.
You will be staying for your first and last night of this expedition in either a Marriott or Movich hotel. We work with both based on availability. Airport pickup is included and provided by Fish Colombia. At the hotel you will be met by one of our hosts who will be there waiting for you to help you check in. Dinner that night is not included.
The following day accompanied by our guide, you will depart with the entire group from the hotel in a Van to the El Dorado Airport, then take a 1:30 mins flight to San José Del Guavire that departs at 6-7 am.
Immediately at 8 am you will depart a 7 hour boat ride on a large covered boat with a 200hp engine to arrive at the lodge.
You will arrive at the lodge in the afternoon and after an introduction and settling into your tent, you are welcome to go for some catfish fishing by the lodge before dinner.

Species
Peacock bass (intermedia, nigromaculatus, temensis, orinocensis) in lagoon systems that drain into the Guaviare as well as large black water tributaries.
Payara reacts very well to both topwater and fly. This is one of the top places in the world to fish payara and fish over 40 pounds are caught by locals every year.
Pacu: black and white pacu are found in river and lagoon systems. They can be targeted on bait like worms, meat, fruits and fish as well as on lures including spinnerbaits, jigs, minnows and soft plastics.
Catfish: Jau, piraiba, shovelnose, firewood catfish and many other lesser species thrive in the Guaviare river. This is the richest river in the Orinoco basin and supports breeding stocks of all these fish that then migrate all throughout the Orinoco basin.
Sardinata: freshwater golden tarpon. One of the most unique, beautiful and fragile fish in freshwater, the sardinata resembles a baby tarpon with a deeper body. It grows to over 25 pounds and is pound for pound stronger than its saltwater cousin.
Matrinxa and Bicuda: Extremely strong fish growing to 12 pounds. Guaviare and its tributaries hold huge numbers of resident and migratory matrinxa all weighing over 6 pounds. These fish on light tackle (10 pound line or 6wt fly rod) are an unrivaled opponent. They fight to the end and sometimes so thick you can catch 70 fish in one session. Bicuda give an aerial display and instant jumps quicker than any tarpon and besides beautiful and unique, are also extremely fun to target on light tackle.
Tambaqui: Pacu species growing to over 100 pounds in this river system. This is one of the strongest runs you will ever experience in freshwater. It will peel off 100 yards in seconds and stopping it before it breaks you off can sometimes be very tricky. Abundant when the river becomes clear, the reward of a picture with one of these giants makes trying very worthwhile.
