In this post, we’ll share some highlights from our fishing adventures between March 2nd and March 17th.
Fishing Report
The Sardina and Bizcocho boats set off from Bahía Solano towards Punta Ardita (Darien Lodge), where we welcomed our guests after a long journey. This time, we hosted a group of eight anglers from France, split into two boats, with four anglers per boat.
After analyzing the conditions for the scheduled fishing days, we kicked things off early in the morning, and the hard-fighting jacks wasted no time in making their presence known! Explosive surface strikes set the tone for the adventure ahead. It was a productive day, with plenty of jacks, medium-sized snappers, and other mid-sized species.
March 4th
We continued our quest for trophy fish, and on this day, we landed a stunning bluefin trevally—a powerful fighter with incredible colors. This was followed by more jacks, African pompano, and a variety of mid-sized inshore species. Later in the day, we ventured offshore in search of tuna—luck was on our side, and we managed to land some great catches.
March 5th
Once again, the jacks provided plenty of action. This time, we also had the excitement of landing a coveted cubera snapper. After a productive morning casting along the coast, we moved to strategic jigging spots, where we had excellent results at various depths. To wrap up the day, we encountered a large school of tuna, making for an unforgettable evening session.
March 6th
We focused on northern inshore fishing, though strong winds made for a challenging day. Despite this, we landed jacks, needlefish, and Spanish mackerel, among other mid-sized species.
March 7th
Heading south, we had great success with roosterfish, needlefish, jacks, and snapper.
March 8th
The day started on a high note with roosterfish, rock snapper, needlefish, Spanish mackerel, and plenty of bottom species while jigging.
March 9th
A spectacular day featuring huge roosterfish, big jacks, black grouper, African pompano, red snapper, and two impressive cubera snappers. We also landed some snook, making for an incredible fishing session.
March 10th – Final Fishing Day
The final day for both groups was nothing short of extraordinary. Roosterfish (double hookups!), big jacks, Spanish mackerel, and—finally—tarpon in all their glory! We had some incredible strikes and solid hook-ups. In the afternoon, we decided to go after tuna, finding massive schools and ending our adventure with fresh tuna sashimi on the boat.
March 15th – Fishing Camp Begins
Fishing Camp is an exciting new initiative by Fish Colombia & Darien Lodge, designed for solo anglers or small groups who want to experience this incredible fishing adventure without needing a full group. If you're alone or with a friend, just contact Fish Colombia—they'll take care of everything!
Our new group arrived, with two anglers from different nationalities. In just two and a half days, we’ve already had thrilling surface strikes, explosive tuna action, and the incredible experience of landing 80–100 lb yellowfin tuna.
With promising weather conditions ahead, we have exciting targets still to chase!
